Discover the Depths: Dive Sites with Blue Sea Explorer

Welcome to Blue Sea Explorer, your premier guide to the most breathtaking dive sites in the Maldives. We're thrilled to share the underwater wonders that make our locations truly exceptional. Whether you're a seasoned diver or just beginning your underwater journey, prepare to be amazed by the vibrant marine life and stunning coral formations that await you.

North Malé Atoll (The Classics)

  • Banana Reef (All Levels): The first dive site discovered in the Maldives. Famous for its dramatic cliffs, overhangs, and massive schools of bannerfish and trevally.

  • Lankan Manta Point (Intermediate): A premier manta ray cleaning station. From May to November, you can watch these giants hover just inches above the reef.

  • Maldives Victory Wreck (Advanced): A 100m cargo ship that sank in 1981. It sits at 35m and is now a thriving artificial reef covered in coral and home to large groupers.

  • HP Reef / Rainbow Reef (Advanced): Known for its spectacular soft corals and narrow swim-throughs. The currents here are strong, bringing in incredible fish action.

South Malé Atoll (Sharks & Channels)

  • Kandooma Thila (Advanced): Often cited as one of the best dives in the country. A teardrop-shaped pinnacle in a channel teeming with grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and schools of barracuda.

  • Cocoa Corner (Advanced): A high-intensity drift dive. Expect deep blue water encounters with hammerheads (if lucky) and consistent grey reef shark patrols.

  • Kuda Giri Wreck (Beginner to Intermediate): An accessible, upright wreck next to a beautiful pinnacle. Great for night dives and spotting frogfish or leaf fish.

Ari Atoll (Pelagic Paradise)

  • Maaya Thila (All Levels): The "White Tip Capital." While great by day, it is legendary at night when the reef comes alive with hunting sharks, moray eels, and octopuses.

  • Fish Head / Mushimasmingili Thila (Intermediate): A protected marine area famous for its resident population of grey reef sharks and large Napoleon wrasse.

  • Broken Rock (Intermediate to Advanced): Named for a large canyon that splits the reef in two. Divers can swim through the canyon surrounded by seafans and soft corals.

  • Maamigili Whale Shark Zone: While technically a reef slope, this is the world’s best place to snorkel or dive with Whale Sharks year-round.

Vaavu Atoll (The Night Dive Capital)

  • Alimatha Jetty (All Levels): Famous for the ultimate night dive experience. Dozens of nurse sharks and giant marble rays congregate here, offering incredibly close encounters.

  • Fotteyo Kandu (Advanced): Widely considered the best channel dive in the Maldives. It features yellow soft coral "caves," swim-throughs, and frequent hammerhead sightings at dawn.

Baa Atoll (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve)

  • Hanifaru Bay (Snorkeling Only): Though diving is prohibited to protect the environment, this is a world-renowned site where hundreds of manta rays and whale sharks gather to feed (June–November).

  • Dhigali Haa (Intermediate): A beautiful pinnacle covered in bushes of black coral. It’s a magnet for silver-tip sharks and huge schools of fusiliers.

The Deep South (Fuvahmulah & Addu)

  • Tiger Zoo - Fuvahmulah (Advanced): The only place in the Maldives to guaranteed sightings of Tiger Sharks. A truly unique, high-adrenaline "blue water" atoll.

  • British Loyalty Wreck - Addu (Intermediate to Advanced): The largest shipwreck in the Maldives (140m). This WWII oil tanker lies at 33m and is covered in big brain corals.

Planning Your Dive Adventure

The Maldives offers fantastic diving conditions year-round. However, the best time to visit for optimal visibility and calmer seas is generally from December to April. During these months, you can expect clear waters and a higher chance of encountering larger marine life. When planning your dive trip with Blue Sea Explorer, we recommend booking in advance, especially during peak season. Ensure your dive certifications are up-to-date and don't forget to pack reef-safe sunscreen. Our team is always available to help you choose the perfect package and answer any questions you may have to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience.
